The bathroom is the worst room in the house to clean. But you can save yourself some scrubbing with these small tweaks.
1. Handheld Shower Head
This is a must have. In homes with a fixed shower head I spend more time rinsing tiles with a cup than I did scrubbing them. It’s frustrating and tedious work. Plus if you have kids or pets it’s a life-saver for quick clean ups.
The best part is you don’t need any knowledge or tools to make the switch. We replaced ours with a handheld attachment from Costco and it works perfectly.
2. No Track Doors
Whoever invented sliding shower doors deserves jail time. The hours I have wasted scrubbing the tracks and trying to reach that tiny little space where the glass crosses each other.
I prefer a swinging shower door. If you want to do even less cleaning, and don’t get cold easily, then the open door shower style is the best option.
3. Square Based Toilet
I saw this suggestion in a TikTok and now it’s all I can think about when cleaning my toilets. It’s not a sexy item to shop for but if you do get to choose your toilet get a square based version. It doesn’t have any curves or grooves so you’re not forced to crouch by the toilet scrubbing as long. This is especially useful for parents with young kids.
4. Deep Vanity Drawers
Perfectly organised bathroom drawers are a work of art. And mostly unrealistic. But deep vanity drawers gives you a place to quickly shove everything off your counter for the illusion of organisation.
The litmus test for me is when they can easily hide those tall moisturiser bottles that never seem to fit anywhere. Added bonus if the vanity has a drawer cut in a U-shape around the plumbing under the sink because then you know the design team has utilised every bit of space possible.
5. Wide Set Faucet
The hardest part about cleaning the sink isn’t actually the sink at all. It’s struggling to get your fingers in between, and behind, the tap and handles. Why do they install taps so close to the mirror? It always gets grimey back there and it’s so hard to reach. However, wide set faucets have a square of space around them and are so easy to clean. I love how elegant these look integrated into the counter top.
