Let’s not pretend that this article is going to discuss much real estate. There’s barely any in the show. So instead let’s just recap Episode 5 of Sold On SLC. You can also read about episodes 1-4 here.

HR Meeting
The episode picks up at the end of the HR meeting that definitely isn’t about Matt *wink wink*.
Jen is treating these grown adults like a primary school teacher. I’ve never had a boss be this involved in their employees lives ever. I hope it’s all for the cameras because she needs to separate herself for her own health.
Piece Of Dirt
We then cut to Sarah meeting Malaysia at her first ever listing… an empty lot. I’m happy for her career progression but it’s not an exciting backdrop for a TV show.
They’re both dressed in cheesy Western gear and attempting cowboy accents but even this isn’t enough to distract the audience from the fact that literally NOTHING has happened this episode.
Chris’ 40th Birthday
Chris, Sarah’s husband and the accused agent poacher, invites everyone to his 40th birthday party.
For someone who isn’t a member of the cast list he has almost more air time than most of the office.
At one point Tyna approaches Chris to enquire about moving brokerages but he won’t engage – instead he recommends she call the office and speak with someone else. I know the producers are silently screaming over this failed setup for drama.
Jen of course RSVP’s yes and then decides to pull out at the last minute. She’s suddenly trying to protect her peace. I bet she secretly catalogued each and every team member that didn’t check in and make sure she was ok.
The group discussed the Matt gossip…again. Kenny, trying to be a good friend, attempted to defend Matt (who wasn’t in attendance) by simply saying: “That’s Matt, Matt talks.”
I had to rewatch to make sure I heard correctly. Spreading harmful lies about others isn’t some quirky, cute, character trait.
The women aren’t even allowed to privately mention his name and discuss the ways he’s hurt them but he can say whatever he wants with zero accountability?
I’ve never seen such blatant double standards.
Speaking Of Kenny…
Just as Matt talks, Kenny absolutely does not. He is a man of few words.
We follow him on a potential listing appointment where a Milhaven developer representative takes him on a tour of their new builds.
He’s shell-shocked the entire time. Every aspect of the house is “incredible”.
His continued use of the word was driving me crazy so thank god for the editors who added a counter on screen. He said the word incredible 32 times!
You know the saying; never trust a skinny cook? Well I’d never trust a real estate agent who doesn’t look comfortable in the house I want to buy. You can’t trust them to catch problems if they’re blinded by low tier luxury.
Jen Attempts Damage Control
We’re at the 3rd lunch date of the episode (the others were too boring to mention) and this time it’s Jen, Sarah and Chris. Again.
In every confessional Sarah states how badly she wants to separate herself from her husband and build her own reputation yet continues to bring him to every single meeting.
Besides being embarrassing personally, it’s unprofessional. He doesn’t work at Presidio!
I’m not even a fan of Jen’s and I think it’s unfair to have every conversation be a team against one.
Jen obviously doesn’t care about this though. She has a lot to say about how she’s controlling the situation and how terrified Chris is of her. He’s happily enjoying his lunch. That is not the behaviour of a person shaking with fear.
I Bet Sarah Wishes Chris Was Here
I never thought I’d say it but – where is Chris? The one time Sarah needs back up and he’s nowhere to be found.
Matt meets Sarah at her listing and begins the conversation by aggressively informing her he drove 30 miles to see her. As if he’s not being paid to be there.
The whole thing is obviously a scripted storyline.
They then have a very messy confrontation about whether or not he called her a gold digger. He flip flops between swearing it didn’t happen and doubling down on its truth.
He says she made jokes about it herself and he simply repeated them. The whole thing happened over a year ago and honestly I don’t care. Neither of them deserve support for their argument.
Although the way Matt raised his voice at Sarah is not ok ever. I want to watch interesting drama not angry men.
